i love this. I color code my tasks based on certain life categories, so mine is definitely more colorful. I have been finding washi tapes and stickers a bit distracting, so I rarely use them lately. This was a good reminder for me that I don't need all that stuff.

This video has me so confused 😂 not in a bad way, it was very informative and clear. I’ve just never seen medium and broad nibs writing that finely. I guess it really depends on how you write. I’m not sure which size to get for myself I’m in that stage of shopping for my first fountain pens. I know I want a twsbi eco with a fine nib, because I tend to write relatively small and densely. My issue is that I want two pens so I can have two colours inked up at a time (I’m really in this for the ink possibilities more than for the pen) and I can’t decide whether to go for an EF or for a M for my second pen (and which model to get). The appeal of the medium nib would be to get a better look at those gorgeous inks, but I am a bit worried about it being too broad for me. On the other hand your writing is still so thin even with broad inks! So many things to consider 😅 Open to suggestions for my second pen and nib selection if anyone has any

I think the travelers co rollerball takes fountain ink cartridges too if you ever want to try that out. My fave brown right now is Rohrer and Klingner Lilly. You have great taste btw <3

This video was exactly what I needed! One question. When you add an event to your Alistair log that is occuring at a specific time, what do you do to reflect that?

I have a lot of old stationery I’ve been holding on to for whatever reason that I don’t use and don’t really love, and a small amount of new stationery that I love and use often. I’m currently struggling with having to let some of the old stuff go due to moving; I’m thinking if I make a conscious effort to use some of it, and I don’t get to something, that I’ll have to move it along. It’s very interesting to see the difference between things I like, and things I love and use regularly. I’m very proud of myself for the progress I’ve made in limiting my purchases- the next thing to tackle is what I don’t use or love completely! Similar to you, I really like the idea of having a small collection of things that I love and use regularly, but I struggle with the idea of “wasting things” by getting rid of things I don’t use. This is such an important conversation to have, especially with how constantly consumerism is pushed onto us. It’s so interesting to see where others are at in their own journey with their relationship with stuff 💕

I was literally unboxing my new Standard Travelers Notebook cover, Tokyo Edition and accessories while watching this video. These are such great ideas and very helpful. I went to Europe for three weeks last year and had paper bags of all the stuff I collected. I’m in the process of putting it all together in a junk journal. I will definitely pick up some of these items for my next trip which will make everything so much easier!

So Clean and organised.

my favourite brown ink that ive been using for years in my fountain pen is Platinum Brun Sepia - its also waterproof so I tend to use with watercolour washes too! Not to mention how pretty the colour is on its own :)) As for my gel pens, I have hopped on the Zebra Sarasa vintage line cartridges and ive been loving them

Uni style has a brown and it, and uni jetstream, are my go-to gel and ballpoints. Also De Aframentis brown, urban sienna and sepia brown are great waterproof inks

Use the MUJI refills in the Sarasa! MUJI inks don't dry and they do have brown ink refills

Fountain pens are definitely a great way to get a lot of color options. There are resources here on RUclips for ink recommendations if you're interested.

as someone who fell down the fountain pen rabbit hole, some brown inks that i love include diamine espresso (which comes in a pack of 20 cartridges and is always inked in my everyday carry), dominant industry lungo no. 116, and monteverde moonstone! if you're feeling adventurous and want to experiment with shimmer inks, i also adore diamine dusted truffle, which is a lovely brown grey with silver shimmer. with shimmer inks, though, it's important to write with them often to avoid clogging, and to rotate your pen as you use it to agitate the particles.

I have been considering the superior labour cover instead of purchasing another midori leather cover. The natural cover you chose looks great. But the dark brown looks good too. Difficult to choose ! I expect “ghosting” with thin quality paper. Bleed is a different story. I used Tombow markers and they didn’t bleed through; A+. If one doesn’t like ghosting, one should buy thick paper. Nice review.

I’ve found social media use directly contributed to my over spending in some areas and found that with the decrease in social media use it was way easier to mindfully spend. Great video! I really loved to see how you journaled about your trips, it looks really simple but still has fun photos and ephemera tipped it. In my own journal last year I went overboard with trying to create perfect spreads for my trips which just made me procrastinate on creating them, so I think I might try simplifying the process this year. Also loved the discussion on planner consumerism, I'm a big proponent of re-using old unfinished notebooks, I find it's really cool to see how my journaling style has changed in one book. And I wholeheartedly agree on your point about instagram, it always feels like everyone is trying to sell you something which is just exhausting. Anyway, take care!)

Loved this video, specially the topic of consumption. Even though I am new in terms of stationary consumption , I have acquired much due to the fact of social media. I do like the idea of rewarding yourself with a special size box to put all your items. I am in the process of letting go of think that I like but don’t use. Thanks for the video.

I really appreciate hearing everyone's thoughts on this. For the longest time, my journal system consisted of the same notebook (A5 Leuchtturm), one pen and one brush pen and some watercolors, and that was basically it. I've only recently started amassing a larger stationery collection, trying new notebooks and stickers and materials and tools, and it's a lot of fun but it also really can be a slippery slope to suddenly having so much more than you can use / overspending--not to mention that terrible restless feeling you get that you need to try something else, that the perfect system is waiting for you out there if you can only switch enough times... I try to remind myself often of how content I was for YEARS just using that very very minimal set of supplies, and that at its heart the hobby is, for me, about the practice of writing and drawing first and foremost, not primarily about all the stuff you can buy (as fun as the stuff can be). So it's nice to hear about how others try to be mindful of their consumption habits too! Thanks Kaitlin + others for your thoughts. <3

I really love those casual talks in video! I hope you'll do some others in the future ❤ i totally agree with you and have had a similar time of reducing my stationery too, since December. I've coped with the pandemic and my end of phd by impulsively purchasing a ways too big stationery collection. The positive point is that i discovered things i love, like my tn system i'm using for the 3rd year in a row, but i also really spent too much on brands i ended up not liking that much. I'm now reselling a lot of things and donated some too. I also took a bit of distance with social medias and RUclips, and i tend to not watch anymore content creators who are "overselling" their affiliates links. I've also blacklisted some brands that have a very aggressive selling techniques. And just like you, i'm currently using what i have and keep track of how i can use what i already own =) My set up is similar to yours : 2 TN, one regular (my bullet journal) and one passport (the one in which i take notes of everything when I'm on the go, especially in public transport). I've resold or donated everything else and put the money on a savings pot to fund a trip to Japan ❤

I've been on my instagram less and less because of the stationery consumerism. I've been buying so much that i totally forgot using a lot of them. The fountain pen consumerism is also huge in the community. I've bought 2 fountain pens so far this year which is quite an improvement for me. I think i've reached the point where fomo can't get me anymore because i'm overwhelmed by the amount of my possessions.
